Project Brief
Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED), BRAC University (BRACU) is looking for a "System Development Coordinator" for the ready-made garment (RMG) related project titled “Digital RMG Factory Mapping in Bangladesh” (DRFM-B). The 4-year project aims to build an interactive, digital map for the Bangladeshi RMG sector by offering credible and comprehensive industry-relevant data through a publicly accessible RMG database for strengthening prevailing working conditions in the Bangladeshi RMG sector. Position Summary
The "System Development Coordinator" is responsible for working in close collaboration with both the International Technological Partner and their local counterpart for the mapping application development as well as for providing necessary technical support to the Technology Partner.
Job Requirements
- Candidates need to have a Post Graduate/Master degree from an accredited academic institution preferably in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Management Information Systems
- Minimum 7 years’ experience on application and system development is required
- Proven working experience as a database administrator and advanced knowledge of database structure and theory
- Hands-on experience with database standards and end user applications
- SSMS (SQL Server Management Studio), SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) packages experience
- Expert knowledge of relational databases, logical modeling and data management
- Ability to script/code using Windows PowerShell, VBScript, PHP, Perl, ASP.net, Java, HTML5, CSS3, etc.
- Sound knowledge on Google Maps API's, PhoneGap, PostgreSQL, AngularJS, cross-platform mobile application(s), etc.
- Problem solving skills and ability to think algorithmically
- In depth knowledge on the Ready-Made Garment (RMG) industry in Bangladesh is preferable.
Major Responsibilities
- Under the supervision of the Project Manager, ensure proper technical implementation of the mapping component of the DRFM-B project
- Work in close collaboration with the Technological Partner for the project's mapping application development
- Ensuring the performance, integrity, access and ongoing operations of the RMG factory database
- Assisting in the design and implementation of the physical framework of the database, applying additional knowledge of spatial feature representations.
- Managing and maintaining physical databases including database storage management, procedures and tools for access, database security
- Managing database reorganizations by creating, scheduling, and monitoring all jobs related to the reorganization
- Developing and testing stored procedures, SSMS/SSIS packages, triggers, queries, and scripts
- Creating complex query definitions that allow data to be extracted
- Training project research team members including enumerators on how to input and extract data
- Creating maps and graphs, using GIS software and related equipment according to data needs, project requirements, required outputs, or to develop applications.
- Gather, analyze, and integrate spatial data from staff and determine how best the information can be displayed using GIS
- Compile geographic data from a variety of sources including censuses, field observation, satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and existing maps
- Enter new map data through use of a digitizer or by direct input of coordinate information using the principles of cartography including coordinate systems, longitude, latitude, elevation, topography, and map scales
- Operate and maintain GIS system hardware, software, plotter, digitizer, color printer, and video camera
