The Marrakech Climate Change Conference convoked from 7-18 November 2016, in Marrakech, Morocco. Dr. Ainun Nishat, Professor Emeritus and advisor of C3ER, BRAC University participated in the Conference of Parties (COP-22) of United Nations Climate Change Conference as a member of the delegation team of Bangladesh. From 7 November 2016, governments from nearly 200 nations convened in Morocco for the COP 22. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) went into constraining in 1994, worked for diminishing greenhouse gas concentrations in the environment. The Conference of the Parties (COP) was assigned as the preeminent administering body of the Convention. The purpose of this conference is to develop a binding agreement on climate change that involves all nations in the world. More specifically the goal is to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to a level that will keep the world’s mean temperature below a 2°C increase compared to the pre-industrial period.
