Anger is a completely normal, healthy, human emotion. But sometimes a person in a state of anger may lose much of their capacity for rational thought and reasoning which lead him towards destruction if he doesn’t know how to manage it. Hence it is necessary to deal anger in a constructive and healthy way for our relational, mental physical and spiritual healthy life.
Therefore, to make students aware about the concepts of anger, two sessions of the workshop on “Healthy Ways to Deal with Anger” were held on Sunday, May 21, 2017 from 07:00pm-08:30pm at BRAC University Residential Campus. The main objective of the workshop was to create awareness among students on how to manage anger constructively. Four members of the Counseling Unit, Ms. Monzia Mushtaq, Ms. Anne Anthonia Baroi, Ms. Tanzila Huq and Md. Saifur Rahman conducted two sessions with sixty three students. The counselors started the session by asking few questions related to anger and taking expectations from the session. Then they discussed about the scientific definition of anger, when it is healthy and when it is unhealthy or destructive, different sources of anger and use of anger meter. A group activity was done by students about cognitive, physiological, emotional and behavioral cues of anger. Counselors also discussed some myths about anger and finally discussed healthy ways to deal with Anger. Concluding part was done by conducting a mini meditation session to help students feel calme and relaxed within their mind and body.
During the session, students were provided with different types of materials and handouts regarding anger management to raise self-awareness among them. Some video clips, individual and group works were also done to make the session even more interesting.
At the end of the session, participants were requested to fill up a feedback form. In response, they were highly satisfied with the content delivered as well as they suggested arranging more such workshop in future.
