Urban Poverty wing of BDI has organized a workshop on December 29th, 2011 to reflect on the findings of the action researchand lessons learnt during the last three years. The action research is based on the urban slums studies and titled'Building Capacities and Creating Communities: Towards a Multi-Sector Initiative in Urban Slums of Bangladesh.' The discussion of the workshop has focused on the following broad issues: tenure security, nature of community mobilization, child labor and education, built environment, access to finance and livelihood, access to utility, and access to health services.
The workshop brought together slum level community leaders, local government representatives as well as local and national level officials of UPPR (Urban Partnerships for Poverty Reduction) project of UNDP and WaterAid. In addition, programme officials of other agencies that have intervention programs in the five treatment slums were invited to participate in the workshop.
