Four students pursing MS degree in biotechnology defended their theses work on 28 November 2016. Of the four students Mr. Shah Sharfin worked at the Incepta Pharmaceutical Ltd to test the waste water quality. His thesis title was “Isolation, Characterization, Identification and Microbial Susceptibility Testing of Bacteria Associated with Pharmaceutical Waste Water Treatment”. The work was jointly supervised by Mr. Md. Hasanuzzaman, Senior Manager, QC, Incepta Pharmaceutical Ltd and Professor M. Mahboob Hossain, MNS Dept. The other three candidates, Ms. Shezote Talukder Shithi, Ms. Shafina Nuzhat and Dr. Visnu Pritom Chowhdury worked at icddr,b completing their research studies. Ms. Talukder’s thesis title was “Screening of G6PD Mutaion and Polymorphism using High Resolution Melt Curve Analysis”. She performed the work under the joint supervision of Prof. Firdousi Qadri and Dr. Kaisar Ali Talukder, icddr,b,. Ms. Shafina Nuzhat worked under the joint supervision of Md Mahbubur Rahman, icddr,b and Professor M. Mahboob Hossain, MNS Dept. Title of her thesis was “Prevalence and Patterns of Antimicrobial Resistance in Salmonella Enterica Serovar Typhi and Salmonella Enterica Serovar Paratyphi, Bangladesh”. Dr. Visnu Pritom Chowhdury worked under Dr. Kaisar Ali Talukder, icddr,b,. His thesis title was “A Statistical Correlation Between Virulence Genes and Clinical Features Among Patients with Shigellosis in Mirzapur, Bangladesh”. All the thesis were praised by the Examination Committee, headed by Prof. A. A. Ziauddin Ahmad. During the presentation Professor Naiyyum Choudhury and Dr. Aparna Islam, Associate Professor and Coordinator of the MS Biotechnology Program were present along with the supervisors.
