CSE Department along with Brac University Computer Club (BUCC) members organized a seminar on Importance and impact of the international Information Technology Engineer Examination (ITEE) on the 20th of February, 2019 at UB71201. It was conducted by Yukinobu Miyamoto, Associate Professor, Kobe Institute of Computing (KIC). He is the director of Japan Society of Information and Knowledge and an Expert for ITEE Project at JICA Bangladesh Office. Mr Hiroko Watanabe, JICA Expert and PR, ITEE also took part. The goal of this seminar was to encourage Brac University (BracU) students to take part in the ITEE. They discussed about techniques the participants can teach themselves to prepare for this prestigious international examination and level up their skills to the global technology standards.
Dr. Iftekharul Mobin, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Brac University (BracU) welcomed the participants and introduced the speakers. After that Annajiat Alim Rasel, Lecturer III, CSE, BracU & faculty advisor of BUCC gave a brief speech on the importance of ITEE and encouraged the students to take part in this prestigious international examination. He also mentioned that in addition to both of themselves as the Master Trainers of ITEE, students are encouraged to consult Mr Dipankar Chaki, Lecturer & Master Trainer of ITEE and Mr Walid Mohammad, Lecturer & ITEE Level 2 (FE) Passer, from the same department as well.
A video presentation gave the audience more information about ITEE and B-JET. At the end of the video, participants were amazed to receive an invitation to Japan from BracU CSE Alumnus, Shovon Paulinus Rozario, Technologist at Monstar Lab, Inc. near Tokyo, Japan. Mr. Shovon was an active members of multiple wings of Computer Club (BUCC).
After the presentation, Mr. Hiroko Watanabe talked about the position of ITEE in Bangladesh and its benefits. He also said that in the year 2018, the international top position holders of these exams were from Bangladesh. Then Mr. Watanabe explained why Japan values ITEE extensively. He also talked about B-JET. B-JET is a program consisting of training course to groom engineers with Japanese business manners, language, and culture which is for everyone who passes the ITEE and wants to apply for a job in Japan. It also includes placement interview with companies from both Japan and Bangladesh. The B-JET program is very competitive. Last time about 40 candidates were selected out of 4000 applicants. Hiroki Watanabe invited Professor Miyamoto, Yukinobu (Associate Professor of Kobe Institute of Technology, Japan) whom he addressed as Miyamoto Sensei. Being an expert of ITEE and a specialized Professor, Miyamoto proceeded to introduce himself briefly with the students of BRAC University. He then surprised them by conducting a fourth of his presentation in Bangla. Later on, he spoke in Japanese leaving Mr. Watanabe to act as the interpreter.
Assoc. Prof. Miyamoto talked about structured schedule regarding ITEE exams in Bangladesh. It contained mock exams, spring registration, special seminars, commentary session on mock exam etc. The main purpose of his guideline and presentation was to encourage the students to practice over and over again and to practice summary of previous exams.
The exam is being held for over 50 long years which was initiated by Government of Japan, one of the key global players in the technology field. Bangladesh attends in both level 1 (IT Passport) and Level 2 (FE-Fundamental IT Engineer) Exam. Across the world, seven countries are participating in the aforementioned exam including Bangladesh. Bangladesh came out triumphant (1st and 3rd position, March 2018) in FE and 2nd position in IT exam, October 2017. Miyamoto sensei concluded his presentation by assuring that, after a further improvement in pass rate, Bangladesh will participate in Level – 3 (AP) exams of ITEE.
Mr. Nafi, Ekmattra Ltd. explained why Japan is eager to hire IT engineers from countries like Bangladesh. It mainly for the median age of our country having many potential IT experts. The presenters invited BracU students to take up the international challenges by registering at http://registration.bditec.gov.bd. A number of BracU graduates has obtained level 1 and level 2 certifications and many of them have already obtained international placements in addition to national ones.
