As a part of capacity building activities of JPGSPH, three researchers, Afzal Aftab, Subas Chandra Biswas and Farhana Alam Bhuiyan participated in a one week short course ‘Gender: A core concept in society and science’ at the Radboud Summer School of Radboud University, Nijmegen, The Netherlands from 8 August - 12 August 2016. This course was designed by the Department of Sociology and Institute for Gender Studies at Radboud University to provide an advanced introduction to the concept of gender, diversity and intersectionality and its implication to the contemporary issues in society, science and research.
The training enhanced participants to understand and explain more how sex, gender, sexuality, and intersectionality are different but interrelated concepts. Moreover, this course discussed the importance of the historical and political context for understanding gender dynamics. Through this learning, the participants will be able to analyze contemporary debates in society and science as well as core aspects of gender inequality in contemporary society, science and research from a gender perspective.
