Brac University (BU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Vincent Chang met with Professor Jeremy Moon and Assistant Professor Erin Leitheiser of Copenhagen Business School, Professor Jette Steen Knudsen of Tufts University, and Professor Shahidur Rahman of BU to discuss the developments of the Regulation of International Supply Chains (RISC) project. The meeting was held in the Conference Room by the Office of the Vice-Chancellor on 18 February, 2020.
The RISC project investigates the regulation of international supply chains in the Bangladesh ready-made garment (RMG) industry with respect to occupational health & safety and wider social sustainability. The research aims to identify the attributes of effective sustainability governance, provide new academic and practical knowledge on the matter and contribute to local capacity-building, policy development and company practices for social sustainability in Bangladesh and beyond. The project is funded by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, administered by Danida Fellowship and will run until May 2021.
Professor Chang commended this project and offered his valuable thoughts throughout the meeting. Anything which supports internationalization, BU will be with that initiative by default, he said.
In the light of the virtues that internationalization offers, this project provides the perfect platform in creating a more inclusive knowledge content about the effectiveness and interactions of various approaches to the governance of supply chains. The RISC team is diligently focused on conducting quality research that will produce helpful outcome to aid global experts and academics to make more informed decisions in their work.
The delegation of the three universities discussed the potential for institutional collaboration as the project moved onwards. The relation between these institutions instigated by this project presents the ideal background for student exchange programs. These initiatives could help build institutional ties while offering students the opportunity to learn from a different environment and develop their knowledge in their chosen fields.
