As a part of BRAC University’s commitment to academic standards and student success, the office of Student Affairs (OSA) runs a comprehensive Probation Advising and Student Support (PASS) program to provide both departmental and general academic support service to improve the retention of probation and at-risk students at BRAC University.
After analyzing the probation students’ result of Spring 2017 semester it has been found that after attending PASS program (i.e. individual advising, group advising, tutorial sessions and PASS workshops) 56.67% last chance probation students successfully overcame academic probation. Moreover in case of the first time probation students, 60.31% survived from being into academic probation for two consecutive semesters.
In May 2017, probation advisers from OSA collected the probation students list of Summer 2017 from Ms. Nazmus Sabeka from the office of registrar. The list was categorized according to first time probation and last chance probation. Total 115 students are in first time academic probation and 34 students got approval for last chance to continue in Summer 2017 semester. 149 probation students (both first time and last chance) reported to the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) and filled up PASS contract form for unblocking their student ID. These students were instructed to attend individual advising sessions with their probation advisers at OSA and tutorials for MAT110, PHY111, MAT120, CSE110, BUS101 and ECO101.
Moreover, an email was sent to the department probation advisers with instruction, list of probation students and tutorial schedule of Summer 2017 semester. They were requested to conduct individual and/or group advising session with the probation students from their respective departments and were also requested to refer the probation students to OSA for further assistance.
