Four students of BS in Biotechnology program defended their undergraduate theses on 24 January, 2019 in Room UB21511 of the MNS Department. Two of the students named Anika Nawar and Asif Iqbal presented their work on medical Biochemistry titled “Survey on patients undergoing treatments of cervical, endometrial and ovarian cancer” and “Ethnobitanical survey of medicinal plants used by the tribal people of Rangamati, Bangladesh and study of Heptapleurum hypoleucum plant to evaluate its activity against some disease causing bacteria” respectively. Another student Muntasirul Hoq presented his work on “In silico drug designing against Klebsiellas pneumonia”. The fourth student Raghib Mubassir Qazi worked on Vibrio species and the work titled ” Isolation and characterization of Vibrio spp. from surface water in Dhaka city”.
One student named Rian Rafsan presented his internship report on the same day.
The presentation and the Viva-Voce Examination was chaired by Professor AFM Yusuf Haider, Chairperson, Department of MNS. Professor Dr. Aparna Islam, S M Rakib-Uz-Zaman, Dr.Iftekhar Bin Naser , Ms. Romana Siddique and Mahbubul Hasan Siddiqee of the Biotechnology program , Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, were also present as members of the Examination Committee. The committee highly commended the work carried out by the students.
Five student of BS Microbiology program presented their internship report on January 24, 2019. The students were Md. Raihan Uddin, Sdia Israt, Shamaila Alamgir, Isra Binte Islam and Saima Hossain.
The Viva-Voce Examination for the presentation was chaired by Professor A.F.M. Yusuf Haider, Chairperson, Department of MNS, Professor M, Mahboob Hossian, Mr. Mahbubul Hasan Siddique, of the Microbiology program and Ms Fahareen-Binta Mosharraf, Senior Lecturer of the Microbiology program and Nazneen Jahan, lecturer of the same program, Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, were also present as members of the Examination Committee. The committee highly commended the work carried out by the students.
Mohammad Amir Hossain, MS student in biotechnology program presented his thesis on 24th January 2019. The title of Mohammad Amir Hossain research was “Determination of Bacterial and viral pathogen spectra and identification of multi drugs resistance gene CTX-M1 in Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from acute respiratory infections children aged under-5 from two hospital settings of Dhaka city”. The work was supervised by Prof. Dr. Naiyyum Choudhury, MNS Department, BRAC University and Dr. Kaiissar Mannoor as external supervisor. The viva examination board was chaired by. Prof. Dr. A F M Yusuf Haider, Chairperson MNS Department, BRAC University and attended by Professor Dr. Aparna Islam, Biotechnology program, MNS Department, BRAC University as external, Prof. Dr. Mahboob Hossain, Microbiology program, MNS Department, BRAC University, Dr. Iftekhar Bin Naser, Coordinator, MS in Biotechnology Program, MNS Department, BRAC University. The board expressed satisfaction on the work accomplished in this research project.
A seminar talk in the MNS department was presented by Dr. Fahim Haque, Assistant professor on Thursday the 24th January at 11:30 a.m. in room number UB 21511. The title seminar was ‘Organoids from nephrotic disease-derived iPSCs identify impaired NEPHRIN localization and slit diaphragm formation in kidney podocytes.
The seminar was very informative and was attended by faculty members and students of the MNS Department.
Two faculty members from MNS department Zarif Hossain and Mahmudul Hasan Akash had participated in the "Basic Training on Structure Based Drug Design" during January 29-31, 2019 which was held at Molecular Modeling and Drug Design Laboratory, BCSIR Laboratories Chittagong.
