Dr. Sharmina Hussain , Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, BRAC University is pleased to inform that, one of her research paper, entitled Heat and Mass Transfer Response in MHD Natural Convection Flow due to Oscillating Surface Temperature and Concentration has been presented at the International Conference on Mathematical Sciences and Technology 2018 (MathTech2018) which was held from 10th to 12th December 2018, at Hotel Equatorial Penang, Malaysia. The conference was organized by the School of Mathematical Sciences, Universiti Sains, Malaysia. The Conference consisted of an informative and comprehensive scientific program, featuring Keynotes, oral and poster presentations and workshops. More than 250 attendees from home and abroad graced this occasion with their valuable research presentations and vigorous exchange of experiences gained during practical operation and theoretical analysis of Advance computations of some mathematical problems.
Ms. Sharmina Hussain’s presentation was highly appreciated by the audience.
Jatiya kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JAKKANIBI) Career Club organized the final of Inter-University Innovative Idea Contest -2018 on 12th December. BRAC University’s team named “TEAM 3D PLAYER” earned second position in the Competition. The team was consist of 3 students from the department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Farzana Zaman, S.M. Salim Shadman and Salman Chowdhury who presented their innovative idea to beat plastic pollution. Students of 58 universities in the country’s public and private sector submitted more than five hundred ideas. Among them only 50 groups got the chance to participate in the second round after immense evaluation. From there, 10 teams of 9 universities with the best idea got the opportunity to participate in the grand finale.

The skills include: Active learning, mathematics, education system, teaching methods, critical thinking, problem solving.

Dr. Naher was delivering her particular research topic that motivates and guides the faculty members and researchers. A lively discussion was taken place after her presentation.
Many distinguished professors and scientists were present from all over the world. They discussed new technology, various research methods, and more thrilling new ideas to prepare our students for future. Some purposeful relationships have been forged and that conversations will continue and relationships would grow and prosper. The certificate was provided at the end of the Conference.
Two students of BS in Biotechnology program defended their undergraduate theses on 27 December, 2018 in Room UB21511 of the MNS Department. One of them Asif Jahan Shuvro have worked with Cardiovascular Patients and presented his work titled “ Characterization of the major risk factors of Cardiovascular diseases and analysis of hypertension as a complication among the relatively newly diagnosed patients all over Bangladesh: A reflective study”. Another student Ashfia Nahreen conducted her thesis on Plant Biotechnology and presented her thesis work titled ” A short review and preliminary study on peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) tissue culture”.
The Viva-Voce Examination for the presentation was chaired by Professor AFM Yusuf Haider, Chairperson, Department of MNS. Professor Dr. Aparna Islam, Professor Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam , Dr.Iftekhar Bin Naser and Ms. Romana Siddique of the Biotechnology program , Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, were also present as members of the Examination Committee. The committee highly commended the work carried out by the students.
Two students of BS in microbiology program defended their undergraduate theses on 27 th December, 2018 in Room UB21511 of the MNS Department. Esrat Islam Ema and Lutful Alam presented the results of thesis study in the field medical microbiology titled “ Prevalence of urinary tract infection among the pregnant women in relation to various risk factors in the context of Dhaka city” and “Synthesis, properties and antimicrobial activities of silver nanoparticles” respectively.
