Ms. Amina Hasan Abedin, PH.D of EEE Department BRAC University had joined International Conference on Power Systems Technology POWERCON 2016 on 28th September to 1st October in Novotel Wollongong Northbeach, NSW, Australia. The conference was hosted by University of Wollongong (UOW) and sponsored and Co-Sponsored by IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) and Chinese Society of Electrical Engineers (CSEE) respectively.
POWERCON is a biannual conference with a well-established history of over 20 years and today sees researchers and practicing power engineers from both academia and industry throughout the Australasian region connecting together to share research and ideas for the advancement of Power Engineering for the benefit of the power industry and consumers. The POWERCON brand was co-initiated by the IEEE PES and CSEE. This biennial conference started in 1998 in Beijing, China. The subsequent venues were Perth, Australia, in 2000; Kunming, China, in 2002 ; Singapore in 2004 ; Chongqing, China in 2006 ; New Delhi, India in 2008; Hangzhou, China in 2010 ; Auckland, New Zealand in 2012 ; and Chengdu, China in 2014.
The theme of this conference was “Challenges, Solutions and Opportunities for Sustainable Energy Systems”. This was topical in the context of emerging trends of Grid Modernization for sustainability; Micro Grid; Smart Grid; Distributed Generation; and, trends towards Emission Reduction Scheme and increased participation of private capital markets into electricity generation.
Ms. Amina Hasan Abedin, PH.D had two oral presentations in the conference; “Two Switch Three Phase Ćuk Regulated Rectifier” and “Output Regulated One-Switch Three-Phase Boost and Boost-Buck (SEPIC) PFC Rectifiers” in two different sessions chaired by Prof Graham Town, Macquarie University, Australia and Dr. Daming Zhang, University of New South Wales, Australia respectively. The session chairs appreciated the works. She is the first author for both the papers.
