First Year Advising program, known as FYAT Day, for the newly admitted students in Fall 2016 semester took place at the university auditorium on 31 August, 2016. As a part of the Freshman Orientation program which took place on 30 August, the new students met with their First Year Advising Team (FYAT) on FYAT Day. Existing students from all academic departments made the program fun-filled.
The day started with an inaugural speech by Mr. Ivan Shafaat Bari, Director of the Office of Student Affairs, who focused on students’ first year experience, ways to fulfill their academic expectations, campus learning and advising resources available at BRACU. Each FYAT group comprises of a faculty adviser and a student peer mentor who provide individual and group advising to support new students, monitor their academic needs and performance and guide on academic planning during their first year at BRACU.
Md. Solaiman Jony, FYAT Coordinator gave a briefing on the FYAT activities. Ms. Farina Haque and Ms. Mehetaz Chowdhury both faculty members of the BRAC Institute of Languages gave separate presentations on Speaking Activity and Writing Centre respectively. Ms. Anne Anthonia Baroi, Psychosocial Counselor briefed on Counseling Unit at BRACU and Mr. Kazi Shahnoor Kabir gave a presentation on OCSAR (Office of Career Service and Alumni Relations). Video presentations on student services and campus resources were shown. The program ended with some singing dancing and other performances on stage by the new and existing students.
