The Gender and Adolescence: Global Evidence (GAGE), in partnership with Overseas Development Institute (ODI), is a nine years long research project that focuses on adolescents and exploring their transformatory process in the face of discriminatory gendered social norms and institutional barriers.
JPGSPH, in collaboration with BRAC Institute of Governance and Development, is responsible for conducting the qualitative component of this mixed-method research. GAGE conducted a week long training in July on qualitative tools followed by field visits to one urban site (Bhashantek Slum, Dhaka) and one rural site (Hatigara, Comilla) for pre-piloting. A team of 13 researchers have completed an urban piloting (Adabor Slum, Dhaka) and a rural piloting (Arajiniyamot, Gangachara, Rangpur) in August. Thus far, GAGE conducted a total of 27 days of fieldwork where the researchers conducted 132 interviews in two pre-piloting sites and two piloting sites. Currently, the project is in the phase of transcription and translation, with upcoming fieldwork in Gojoghonta village of Rangpur to be undertaken.
