On Saturday August 13, 2016, Annajiat Alim Rasel, undergraduate course coordinator and Lecturer III, CSE Department has attended a daylong Workshop on Health Data Analytics under UGC HEQEP sub-project CP 3137. The seminar was organized by CSE department of BUET. The workshop discussed diverse characteristics of data analytic techniques to derive value from data in different areas. The workshop brought together participants from diverse backgrounds, from organization unit heads to field level people dealing with data. They explored possibilities and opportunities of health data analytics in Bangladesh. Various problems and visions were shared. They emphasized on how data collection and analysis can help in health service planning and delivery. Participants included researchers, students, teachers, data scientists, representatives from Government offices, hospitals and IT companies. Md. Humayun Kabir, Former Sr. Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Sr. Strategic and Technical Advisor, MEASURE Evaluation delivered the keynote Speech, “Health Data for Better Health Outcomes”. Then Dr. Abu Sayed, Md. Latiful Hoque, Professor, Dept. of CSE, BUET presented “Research in Health Informatics: Bangladesh Perspective”, followed by a talk on “Data in healthcare services: Bangladesh perspective” by Dr. Sultan Shamiul Bashar, Medical Officer, Management Information System, Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS). Saddam Hossain, Head Business Strategy, Airtel Bangladesh Limited, Co-Founder, Business Accelerate BD Ltd discussed how analytics can transform the way we deliver our healthcare and conducted a short tutorial on health data analytics using R. There was a lively panel discussion on "Opportunities and challenges of health data collection and analytics in Bangladesh" with the guests Dr. A M Shamim, Managing Director, Labaid Group, Nazmul Kabir, Senior Manager, MIS, MaMoni-HSS, Save The Children International Bangladesh, Sohel Islam, Global Head of Engineering, Augmedix, Inc., Abu Md Akteruzzaman Bhuiyan, Assistant Professor, Bangladesh University of Health Sciences, Shahidul Islam Khan, PhD student, working on Health Data Mining, Department of CSE, BUET.
