Advisor of C3ER, Dr. Ainun Nishat and Researcher Nureen Faiza Anisha participated in a Regional Dissemination Meeting of “Assessing the Climate Change, Environmental Degradation and Migration Nexus in South Asia” organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Dhaka in collaboration with Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of Bangladesh on 15th January 2017, Sunday at Bangabandhu International Conference Center, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
IOM country missions in Bangladesh, Nepal and Maldives have implemented this regional research project which aims to provide an assessment of climate change, environmental degradation and migration dynamics in the region. The project findings have been compiled into an assessment study, based on which Plans of Action for the three countries and a Regional Strategy Framework have been developed. These documents were presented at the regional dissemination meeting to representatives from government and UN agencies, development partners, NGOs and CSOs in South Asia. The meeting therefore offered the opportunity to enhance dialogue amongst key stakeholders and finalize the regional strategy framework on how to address the challenges and leverage opportunities related to climate migration in South Asia.
Secretary (in Charge) of Ministry of Environment & Forests, Mr. Istiaque Ahmad launched the report “Assessing the Climate Change, Environmental Degradation and Migration Nexus in South Asia”. Chief of Mission, IOM Bangladesh, Mr. Sarat Dash and Senior Programme Manager, IOM, Mr. Abdusattor Esoev were also present at the event.
