Brac University Security Department took up a weeklong Traffic Awareness and Assistance program from 27 January-2 February this year to ensure that all involved with Brac University (BracU) can avoid hazards and get access to safe passage.
In a notice, the department stated that due to the increased number of vehicles plying on the main road, i.e. the Mohakhali-Gulshan link road, it has become imperative for all BracU members to follow the standard traffic norms while crossing the said road.
The campaign comes against the backdrop of a fortnightly traffic awareness program ending on January 31 in which volunteers from Red Crescent, Bangladesh National Cadet Corps and scouts offered their services to traffic police at 57 points in Dhaka.
During its own campaign, BracU’s security department members took up position along the zebra crossing connecting the university over the link road, stopping traffic with hand signals and by blowing whistles to help pedestrians cross.
Besides, one member used a megaphone to alert pedestrians of dangers and to request people to cross streets in groups using zebra crossings. There were also a number of posters at the university gates seeking all to be more alert on roads.
