As part of freshman orientation program of Spring 2017 Semester, BRAC University (BRACU) organised “Freshman Parents’ Orientation Program” on January 3, 2017.
Welcome speech was presented by Mr Ivan Shafaat Bari, Director, Office of Student Affairs (OSA), the Office of Co-Curricular Activities (OCA) and the Office of Career Services & Alumni Relations (OCSAR). Mr Bari described the roles of co-curricular activities to complement the academic focus of the students. He also emphasised on the role of parents in encouraging students to strive for the best and explained how students were evaluated at BRACU.
First Year Advising Team (FYAT) Coordinator, Md Solaiman Jony, presented a guideline to the students for their first year at BRACU, ways to fulfill their academic expectations, campus learning and about resources available for them. FYAT is a unique feature of BRACU aimed to support new students in their first year, monitor their academic needs and performance, and guide them on academic planning. Each FYAT comprises a faculty adviser and a student peer mentor who provide individual and group advising to the students.
Ms Ismat Shereen, Head, Relationship Management Office described the types of scholarships provided from BRACU and encouraged students to take anvantage of this. It was told that BRACU gave out nearly Tk 8.38 crore in scholarships last year.
The program saw descriptions on the Residential Semester in BRACU Savar Campus. Parents’ queries were answered followed by the closing of the session.
Earlier BRACU organised “Freshman Orientation - Spring 2017” at Army Golf Garden on January 2, 2017. BRACU Vice Chancellor Professor Syed Saad Andaleeb, Ph.D., welcomed and congratulated the new students for being selected in BRACU, one of the top ranked universities in the country. Around 1,300 students got admission in undergraduate programs in this semester.
