The movement towards achieving universal health coverage (UHC) is gaining momentum in Bangladesh following its endorsement as one of the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals. JPGSPH, with the support from USAID’s Health Finance and Governance project, and in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s (MoHFW) Health Economic Unit (HEU), is implementing a project to raise nationwide awareness on UHC through advocacy and communications.
To strengthen the impact of the movement towards achieving universal health coverage, the Centre of Excellence for Universal Health Coverage at JPGSPH organised a short course on UHC for 22 public health researchers and academicians. The course was held from 28 - 30 November 2016.
The course aimed to enhance the capacity of UHC stakeholders in Bangladesh, analysing key issues on health system performance, supporting evidence-based policy formulation, and monitoring the results in reforming the process to support UHC in Bangladesh. The sessions were conducted by expert facilitators of respective fields, with participants actively engaging throughout the sessions and group exercises.
Ashadul Islam, Director General, HEU, MoHFW; Lynda Tison, USAID; Syed Masud Ahmed, Malabika Sarker, Taufique Joarder and members of CoE-UHC attended the welcome session.
