Afroza Khan is a newly appointed Lecturer in the Microbiology Program of the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of BRAC University from September, 2022. Currently, she is one of the Student advisors of Microbiology Program at Brac University. Before joining BRAC University, she worked as a Research Assistant in Genomics and Bioinformatics Laboratory, Microbiology, Dhaka University and she also worked as a Lab analyst in Centre for Advanced Research in Sciences (CARS). Recently, for Covid-19 Emergency Response Pandemic Preparedness, Afroza Khan has been recommended as a lab consultant officer (Microbiologist) by Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Afroza Khan completed her school and college from Viqarunnisa Noon School and College. She graduated from Microbiology, University of Dhaka securing Second position, in 2019 and completed MSc, securing First class First position in Microbiology from the same institution in 2021. Her thesis was about Metagenomic sequencing Analysis of Microbiome Structure and Functional Profiling of Agricultural and Urban soils of Bangladesh. Along with this, she was involved in multiple projects on assessing Prevalence of Extended Spectrum Beta-lactamase genes in Multidrug Resistant Gram Negative Clinical pathogens along with whole genome sequencing Analysis. She is passionate about Environmental Microbiology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Virology and Bioinformatics.
She has been involved with co-curricular and extra-curricular activities since school till University level. She has been an organizer and active member of the Bangladesh Society of Microbiologists and organized several Scientific conferences, Competitions and Cultural programmes. She received prize for poetry recitation in several competitions and has been an active anchor in school, college, university programmes.
With her teaching and dynamic research ideas, she wants to motivate students, contribute to and add more values in research on life science.
