I am happy to know that BRAC University is holding its 8th convocation on 17 February 2013. On this occasion, I congratulate all the graduates, teachers, parents, guardians and the university authorities.

Quality educational institutions can create responsible citizens, and bring out their potentials and values that add to the national and personal growth. The government has taken all out steps to provide all support needed to make any educational endeavor successful. Private universities have become an integral part of government's effort to ensure higher education and build a knowleghe-based society.

I hope the outgoing graduates of this university will be able to face the challenges of the 21st century and build a prosperous "Sonar Bangla" as dreamt by the greatest Bangalee of all time, the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

This is a proud occasion for both BRAC University and us. I convey my academic success. I congratulate and thank the faculty and staff members of the institution for their professional support and the Trustee Board for their guidance. Our Government, Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has been working tirelessly to improve the quality of education in the country. I am happy to note that BRAC University is in the front line of providing quality education in the tertiary level. I am sure that the graduates of today will become the entrepreneurs, leaders and caregivers of tomorrow and will be known for their remarkable contributions towards the betterment of the world.

It is a proud moment for the 8th graduating batch of BRAC University, who will be celebrating their convocation ceremony on 17th February, 2013. I congratulate the students, teachers, staff and faculty members along with the parents and guardians on this occasion.

It is an auspicious occasion for the graduates, who are going to enter a new world of practical experiences after years of academic learning, Now is the time for them to apply their knowledge and tools provided by their schools in their lives. Education has the power to instill the ethos of a nation through the reinforcement of the national goals and destination. Education can uplift the morals of the students and turn them into not only successful people, but also responsible and conscientious human beings. I am sure that BRAC Univeristy has inculcated the students with the values of social welfare, ethical perspectives and visions for a better world.

Qualified and efficient manpower is the prime need of the hour to gain national development and face the global challenges of the 21s century. BRAC University has been producing skilled and accomplished graduates by imparting quality education since its inception. From the narrow confines of the academic world, you are venturing into the wide world of practical life , a life full of challenges and opportunities. I am confident that BRAC University, with its highly qualified and dedicated faculty, equipped with the latest in knowledge and technology, has prepared you well to face any challenges that lie ahead. Our motto is to imbibe in our youth a high ethical standard and a passion to serve the society and the world at large. You should never forget the sacrifices that your parents, families and the society made to bring you up to where you are now. I believe that the class of 2012 will make us all proud through their academic achievements, professional excellence.

I congratulate the parents and guardians who made enormous sacrifices to support and encourage their wards through these years. I think the Vice Chancellor, Faculty members and staff for ensuring a high academic standard at all times. I am indebted to the distinguished members of the Board of trustees, Syndicate and the Academic Council for their time, energy and wise counsel.

BRAC University is today a recognized leader in the academic arena of Bangladesh. Our students are achieving excellence in their professional fields. Our research Institutes are producing high-quality research work in the fields of Social Development, Public Health, Bio-Sciences, Humanities, Education and Governance. We are continuously expanding modernizing our infrastructure to provide better facilities to our students.

Once again, I congratulate this year's graduates. I hope you bring your education and knowledge to the service of those who have less, uphold human dignity and ensure liberty and social justice.

I extend my heartiest congratulations to the students graduating in the 8th convocation of BRAC University.

Today's event marks another milestone in the short history of BRAC University. In little more than a decade since it was established, BRAC University has made its mark as one of the leading University of the country. Whether in the quality of teaching or research , laboratory equipment or library facilities, technological innovation or co-curricular activities are designed to produce educated youth with broad understanding of social, political and economic issues. It is no wonder, therefore, to see our graduates doing so well in their career. They are in the field of business and banking, in Industry and research. Many are pusuing higher education in some of the best academic institutions around the world.

Our founding organization BRAC was adjudged as the best NGO in the world recently. As a member of the BRAC family, we are proud to uphold the high ideals of BRAC and indebted to its founder Chairperson Sir Fazle Hasan Abed KCMG for being our mentor and guide. I am also grateful to the members of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Syndicate and the Academic Council for their wise counsel. I am greatful to the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission (UGC) for their constant support. I want to thank the members of the faculty and the staff for their dedication and hard work that has culminated in producing over 700 graduates receiving their degree today.

Once again, I convey my warmest felicitations to the graduates. I know you are going to face a highly competitive world outside, but I am confident that we have prepared you well to all obstacles and establish yourself as worthy citizens. You are our brand ambassador to the world. You will make us all proud, I am sure.

I thank all the parents and guardians for entrusting  us with their greatest assets - their children. I am confident that your trust will be further strengthened when you see them successful in their life. I urge the graduating students never to forget the sacrifices made by their parents and guardians. Now is the time to pay back the debt. May I extend my congratulations to BRAC University's graduating class of 2013. I feel privileged to be a part of the Convocation ceremony, to share in your joy and happiness. Today, you pass a milestone in your life. From the academic world you enter into a world full of possibilities, challenges, and yes, frustrations even. Use your BRAC University experience to seek perfection when you succeed, introspection when you fail and understand that all you owe to yourself is to do the best you possibly can.

I am happy to learn that BRAC University, although only a little over a decade old, has earned a name for itself in the academic world. I am further delighted to learn that the mission of the University is to produce citizens who are ethically sound and academically proficient. I congratulate the management, faculty and staff of the University for pursuing their mission with empathy, idealism and a belief in every coming generation.

I once again congratulate the students of the class of 2013. May you make your families and society proud of your achievements.

Brief Biography of the Convocation Speaker

Named the Superstar of Art House Cinema by TIME magazine, Rahul Bose won the Best Actor award at the Singapore Film Festival for the movie Split Wide Open. In 2002, at Palm Springs, CA, USA, He was awarded Runner-up Best Debut Director for Everybody Says I'm Fine!. Founded in 2006, his NGO, 'The Foundation", is dedicated to the removal of all forms of discrimination. Oxfam's only South Asian Global Ambassador, Rahul was awarded the Green Globe award in 2009 and was voted the Indian Youth Icon of the Year (Social Justice) in 2010. In 2011 he was the first Indian from a non-financial background to be invited as the keynote speaker at the World Bank headquarters in Washington D. C. for a seminar on 'Education through Entertainment'. In 2012 he was awarded the prestigious Hakim Khan Sur Award for National Integration. On India's Independence Day the same year, he was conferred the L. Governor's Commendation Award for his services to the andaman and Nicobar Islands. A former international, Rahul played rugby for India from 1998-2009. Deeply knowledgeable and passionate about Indian sport, this year he was awarded NDTV's Celebrity Sports Activist of the Year.
